Aspen Wrap Up
Traveled to hike in Aspen from September 29th - October 5th. The first night began with a sandwich at the grateful deli then followed by a concert at the Belly Up. We saw three bands, atlas genius, flor and another whose name I can’t remember. We worked up at 6 am the next day to get breakfast and to catch the bus to maroon bells. We hike and made many friends along the way. My husband cautioned me of altitude sickness so I was aware of my body that day... we saw a man who looked like he was catching his breath... on our return several other hikers were giving him CPR and several others were running asking peo or for an epi pen. The gentleman did not make it and the mountain closed. I saw his blue face and it will remain with me always. That evening g we had dinner at the red onion where we shared a burger and salad. The next day we went to look for the Ute trail which was closed but we started our hike at the nell near the gondola all the way up to Ajax at the sun deck... I almost died!!! I had altitude sickness and could not breathe. It took us 5 hours to make it up the mountain. We walked in summer winter and fall conditions- 3211 elevations. 😜 it was a blizzard with white out conditions when we finally arrived. I was proud of myself but also was frightened. It snowed the next day and we stayed in to recuperate and had the best sandwich at the White House tavern... it was a fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw and a kale salad. The next day was beautiful and we went to the John Denver sanctuary which was beautiful then the aspen museum followed by lunch at peaches. We had drinks and sushi at Kenichi while watching extreme surfing in Iceland and other places. We met the restaurant owner, Brent while walking on the mountain... all in all it was a great trip. Just the right amount of time.
